From arlene.weible at state.or.us Mon Jan 6 08:09:52 2014 From: arlene.weible at state.or.us (Arlene Weible) Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2014 16:09:52 +0000 Subject: [AL-Directors] Upgrade information for LearningExpress Library - Please Review! Message-ID: <203B0B8CF6665A4B822F17E789DD1AD14276FAD5@OSLEXCHANGE.osl.state.or.us.local> As we announced in December, LearningExpress Library has upgraded to a new and improved platform. Attached is the list of currently participating libraries and the URL's that can be used to access the new version, LearningExpress Library 3.0. This file is also available at: http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/technology/sdlp/learningexpress/OregonLEL3.0.xls The link that your library is currently using to access Version 2.0 will also remain active through the end of June 2014. The update of LearningExpress Library and the shift to a new platform requires users to re-register their accounts. Accounts from LearningExpress 2.0 will not be carried over to the new version. Users should be encouraged to finish their work in Version 2.0, re-register their account in Version 3.0, and start new work in Version 3.0. In addition, all new content added to LearningExpress Library, including materials for the 2014 GED Test, will only be available in Version 3.0. The State Library recommends that libraries provide links to both Version 2.0 and Version 3.0 simultaneously for a period of time as users transition their work from Version 2.0 to 3.0. You may use the template "splash page" that LearningExpress provides, or you may post the information on your own web site. Please contact LearningExpress customer support if you need assistance with the template or have any questions about your authentication technology. Please be sure to place links behind your authentication page to ensure authorized registration and access. Distributing this link for unauthorized use is strictly prohibited. Here is some suggested language for your library web page: If you were a registered user of LearningExpress Library 2.0 your username and password will not work in Version 3.0. You must register again to access Version 3.0 If you have started a course or test in Version 2.0, you must finish it in Version 2.0. Your work will not transfer to Version 3.0 Please finish all work in your Version 2.0 account by June 30, 2014 [or whatever date you choose to stop providing a link to Version 2.0] The introductory screen to Version 2.0 will have a message beginning in January 2014 that access will only be supported through the end of June 2014. Plinkit Libraries will have links to both versions added to their web sites by January 17, 2014. If you have questions about your Plinkit site, please contact Darci Hanning, 503-378-2527. More information about Version 3.0, including training resources, is available in the FAQ we've created. If you have any other questions about the transition, please don't hesitate to contact me. Oregon State Library. From: Laura Girmscheid [mailto:lgirmscheid at mediasourceinc.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2014 1:18 PM To: Laura Girmscheid Subject: LJ request for library referenda information Library Journal is collecting information for its annual referenda roundup and we need your help to provide an accurate accounting of 2013's campaigns. Our report of pass/fail results and campaign details will help libraries plan for future ballot measures. Did any public libraries in your state have building or operating referenda on the ballot in the past year (12/01/12 through 11/30/13)? Please reply back with a list of those libraries so we may follow-up with them. If there were no ballot issues in your state last year, a reply back to that effect would be welcome as well. If possible, please forward this email to the appropriate libraries in your state that you know had operating or building measures up for a vote. We are hoping to receive a completed survey about each ballot measure, regardless of whether it passed or failed. Surveys must be completed by January 24. Operating referenda survey link: http://fluidsurveys.com/s/2013operatingreferenda/ Buildings referenda survey link: http://fluidsurveys.com/s/2013buildingreferenda/ Prefer to fill out the survey in Word? The survey documents are attached and can be emailed back to me at lgirmsheid at mediasourceinc.com or faxed to 973-969-9260. Many thanks for your help! I look forward to hearing from you. ~ Laura Laura Girmscheid | Research manager Library Journal 160 Varick St. 11th Floor New York, NY 10013 646-380-0719 lgirmscheid at mediasourceinc.com Email is the best way to reach me! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A link to the 2015 competitive LSTA grant packet will be found on the Oregon State Library main page, as well as the Library Development main page (http://www.oregon.gov/OSL/LD/). The forms are in downloadable Microsoft Word form, as well as pdf, for your convenience. If you need a paper copy of the packet sent to you, or have the files in some other format, please contact Ann Reed at (503) 378-5027 or ann.reed at state.or.us. Brief grant proposals are due at the State Library by 5:00 pm on April 11, 2014. For multi-year grant projects seeking a second or third year of funding, please use the form Appendix D. Grant applications need to be in accordance with the purposes of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) which is summarized in the packet as Appendix A. Many other resources for LSTA grant applicants can be found on the Grants / Aid to Libraries page of the Oregon State Library website (http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/grantmainalt.aspx.) Resources include information about past grants and Library Services and Technology Act Advisory Council minutes. As with the previous year, FFY2015 has a requirement for measuring outcomes of your grant project. The State Library has discontinued its peer evaluation program in favor of outcomes-based evaluation. Grant projects need to be designed so that the impact of the project on the knowledge, skills and abilities of the target population are measurable in some way. This is really doable and fairly easy. Many links to good resources can be found via http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/resources/OBE/obe.aspx and OSL staff are here to help. If you have questions about the Grant Guidelines, LSTA grant program, outcomes-based evaluation or have difficulty downloading a form, please feel free to contact Ann Reed, Federal Programs Coordinator. Ann can be reached at (503) 378-5027, or ann.reed at state.or.us. You will meet with the State Librarian and staff from Library Development and Talking Book and Braille Services to learn more about our services. That will be followed by a tour of our historic building. There will be plenty of time for staff to answer any questions you may have. After the tour, you are welcome to stay for a no-host lunch with some of the staff you meet. I will send an agenda and ask for RSVPs as the date nears.
