Hello,

We need help with this search for the title of a science fiction or
fantasy novel.

The question submitted to us is:

"Patron would like to find a book that she remembers getting from the
Sno Isle Mill Creek libraries. She describes it as futuristic (maybe
sci-fi?) and popular at the time 2005/2006. There were terrific
riddles throughout the book. Each chapter was a new story but followed
a main character. The character as she remembers it may have been evil
or unlikeable.

When I asked for any other details that the patron might remember, she
said that the book was about a man from the future and the man's
character was evil. She said that every chapter in the book had a
different story, but that the evil man was in all the chapters in the
book. There was one chapter which took place on a train or city bus.

There were many riddles in the book, all said by the evil man. One
riddle that she doesn't remember exactly was roughly:

"What is greater than God? What is worse than the devil? Answer: nothing."

She thinks that the book might fall under either the Science Fiction
or Fantasy categories.

She thinks that it was either new or recently published when she read
it in 2005/2006. She may have seen it on the Sno Isle Mill Creek
library's new book display. It was an adult book. The patron doesn't
remember any other details regarding the characters, location of the
story, or author's name.

Other MCL staff found these possible titles, but the patron thought
that none of them are the book that she is searching for.

The Mysterious Benedict Society Paperback
The Riddles of Epsilon Paperback
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
The 39 Clues series"
