AARGH, I hit "send" before completing the email. Gotta love Mondays. :) Here's the *real* version...
Hello Answerland academic librarians,
At last week's training a couple of questions came up, to which I now have answers...
Q: Are librarians expected to read and comment on student papers?
A: No, chatting librarians are NOT expected to do this during a live chat session. If we get a request like this, we should refer the patron to their librarians for followup (ex: "I can forward our conversation to your librarians so they can continue helping you").
Q: What types of questions can we expect to get? Can we see transcripts of previous sessions?
A: Below are some common question types. It's helpful to note that many academic libraries embed Qwidgets in their LMS/databases/catalog - so many questions are related to using those systems.
* Tech help (using databases, catalog, LMS & other campus systems; logins; error messages)
* Circulation (find/access/request books, articles, reserves, dissertations; account issues and questions)
* General research paper/project help (ex: creating thesis, narrowing topic, keywording, finding reliable/scholarly/peer-reviewed resources, citing sources)
And here is a sample of interesting research questions:
* i'm trying to access info on UK bond yields in 2015 but not having much luck. can you help?
* I'm looking to obtain rights to use photos from a collection at the UCLA library for a not-for-profit film.
* I am looking for LGBT population estimates for 2040 in the US
