Hello Answerlanders,

See below for an upcoming QuestionPoint webinar on citation help. This may be useful for those of you staffing chat, particularly on the 24/7 Cooperative queue.

Also, I have been asked to be a panelist, to talk about the type of citation questions we get in Answerland and how we assist patrons with them. If any of you have any best practices or tips you want to send me, please do! I'd love to share more than just my perspective. I will need feedback by this Friday (4/27).

Thanks,
Tamara

Subject: [QUESTIONPOINT-L] QuestionPoint community webinar: Best practices for citation guidance in virtual reference

In virtual reference interactions, we need to provide accurate guidance when students ask questions about citing (referencing) their sources. Teachers often require use of a specific style. And regional preferences often determine which style to use. For example, In the U.S. the most common citation styles are APA, MLA and Chicago Style, while in the UK, a popular style is Harvard Referencing.

This webinar is an opportunity to continue a listserv discussion about citation referencing issues in a global virtual reference cooperative.

The following panellists will kick off the conversation:

* Current citation help policies, including use of library policy pages

  * Susan Barb, QuestionPoint 24/7 Reference Staff Manager

*         UK practices

  * Sandra Clark, University of the West of England, Bristol
  * Emily White, University of Portsmouth

*         U.S. academic perspective

  * Antoinette T. Avila, University of California, Irvine
  * Tina Mullins, Joseph P. Healey Library, University of Massachusetts Boston

* U.S. statewide perspective (including academic and public librarians)

  * Tamara Ottum, Answerland (Oregon's online reference service)

* Open discussion among panellists and participants

  * Wren Spangler (moderator) QuestionPoint Cooperative Coordinator

Join us for a lively discussion about how to connect users with the appropriate information for their individual citation needs!
