Jordan,
Below are my comments, as submitted at the end of the survey. Just to be clear, I can’t support the proposal with the limited information provided.
WHO was the originator of DEI? WHICH tech groups have seen this and deemed it to be viable?
Has DEI been piloted in any schools this year, if so what were the results? It sounds like it will work with any mobile or immobile device, except smart phones…correct?
The form and function of the input interface is crucial, can you send us mockups of them, please?
The same request for the output reports….what will they look like and what audiences will be addressed by the various report formats?
If we can't see the interfaces & reports, we can't make credible estimates of training needs, device needs, actual functionality, etc.
What training options would be available and when? Will this be added to the existing Kinder Initial Skills Survey training or be another training? If the latter, when would it be provided?
Will funding be provided for schools to purchase tablets, etc if they do not have a sufficient number of devices already?
There is no mention of the origin of the concept or the supporting funding & authorization....this all seems like pretty important info, that is MISSING.
The slide deck seems sorely lacking in detail, so much so that I can't endorse the plan.
It seems like a good idea, but the lack of detail (and piloting?) gives me little evidence to make the leap to it being great practice.
In truth, I hope the missing facts / details do exist and their omission was just an oversight. We need more effective data flow for the KISS….as well as the actual assessments districts are required to administer and track.

The DEI is a streamlined user interface hosted through the same OAKS Portal used for Oregon’s online assessments that would be accessible to authorized school or district staff (including test administrators) via tablet, laptop, or desktop. ODE would like your feedback to inform its decision whether to transition to the DEI hosted through the OAKS Portal starting in 2015-16. The attached DEI proposal powerpoint briefly describes what the DEI is and how it works.

Please submit your survey response by Friday, January 30, 2015.
