[bike_psob] Bike parking reserved for those with physicallimitations

The underlying issue here is that, despite recent additions, there is still not enough covered, secure bike parking to satisfy the demand. (What a wonderful dilemma to have!) This will likely relieve just a bit as we move in to winter. But, last winter there was continued high usage of bike parking here. 
 
How do we request additional bike parking? Who needs to hear from us and how do we contact them?

Like Steve, I also have a bike I have invested a lot of money in. Therefore, I have made the choice to pay for the bike locker. However, there have been occasions where the spots in the locker and on the wall are taken. Although rare, they do occur. Under those circumstances, using the floor mounted racks is the only option. 
 
In addition to parking in the garage, new floor racks were installed last summer near the SW corner of the building. To my knowledge, those racks are under security surveillance.
 
I hope that we can all continue to use common sense and courtesy.

Sorry, if my opinion is incorrect; but there are signs posted that those spaces are reserved for persons who are unable to lift their bikes. 
And truly, my message was intended as a friendly reminder; your suggestion that I pay for parking for your $4000 bike is unkind.

Hey all,

In follow up to Susan's note, I agree that this is a polite way to deal with each other, but that the reality of bike parking here makes its hard. Remember that this is her opinion, and that there is no official DAS/DHS policy with regard to this. The issue is that we do not have sufficient 'secure' bike parking in the garage. Also the hanging racks downstairs are of very poor design- it is hard to hang two bikes on one without banging them together. I had my bike banged hard last year on one by another bike- I left the building without noticing that my rear derailleur had been hit and knocked a little askew- just enough that later the chain caught, the derailleur twisted into my back wheel and I crashed.  I have a 25-30 mile round trip commute so I ride a nice bike, worth $3,000 to $4,000- until the issue of the bad hanging racks is resolved, I'm very reluctant to put it on one again. 

Also if Susan or someone else wants to pay the fees for the bike cage, fine- but I dont feel it is fair to force anyone to have to pay for bike parking.

This is a friendly reminder that certain racks are reserved for people with physical limitations which prevent them from using the hanging racks. These are like handicapped parking places; if you park there, the person who really needs and is entitled to that spot has no option.
If you are concerned about the safety of your bike on the hanging racks, please consider using the locked bicycle parking room.
