RE:   Excess costs calculation spreadsheets

There are districts which have still not submitted the excess cost calculation.  It is important for you to be aware that failure to submit the calculation is not an option if you want to receive and expend your IDEA funds for 2007-2008. Excess cost calculation is a requirement under federal law ( IDEA Section 602(8) and 34 CFR 300.16 and 300.202) and ODE has oversight to make sure it is happening. If you opt not to do this you will be required to pay back any IDEA Part B: 611 funds that you have drawn down from EGMS for 2007-2008. I need to make sure you are aware of this because I would surmise that your district and the children on IEPs they serve need these funds. 
If you want to rethink this and complete the calculation, I will give you until 2/28/08 close of business to submit the calculation. I can not extend beyond that date to be fair to other districts.  

You will need to submit a copy of the spreadsheet, with signature from an authorized district representative, to:
