RE: Small High School Grant
Good Afternoon,
I wanted to alert everyone to the fact that the Small High School Grant will be ending on June 30, 2012. This $2,500,000 grant was provided to high schools of less than 350 ADM in districts with less than 8,500 ADMw. The details of the grant can be found at ORS 327.355-357. Per statute the grant is scheduled to end this year.
Many districts have been surprised to hear about this grant ending. Thus, I wanted to provide an alert to all of the districts so that budgets could be adjusted for the potential loss of funds from this grant moving forward. It appears that there has been some legislative interest in extending the grant, however no bill has been filed that would officially extend the grant.
Please note, that this is the Small High School Grant. This is not the Small School Correction. The Small School Correction which is found at ORS 327.077 is a calculation that provides additional weights for both elementary and high schools. It does not provide a separate source of funds as does the Small High School Grant. The Small School Correction continues to be valid and will continue to be included in the State School Fund calculations.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Michael Elliott, State School Fund Coordinator
