Applications for the next round of Seismic Rehabilitation Grant funding, which includes $25 million for school projects and $10 million for emergency service projects, will be accepted beginning October 2, 2017 and ending January 31, 2018 at 5pm.  The goal is to announce the awards by the end of April 2018.

There will be another application round scheduled for 2018 which will include $75 million for school projects and $10 million for emergency service projects. Another announcement will be made with the dates for the 2018 round once the schedule has been finalized.

The maximum grant award for the seismic program has been updated to $2.5 million per building.  The department encourages all school retrofits to be designed to seismic immediate occupancy standards.  However, at a minimum, school projects must design the retrofit to seismic life safety standards unless the project is for a shelter (i.e. gym, cafeteria, large common area, etc.) which then must be designed to seismic immediate occupancy standards. (Please see the guidance on the web site for further clarification.)  All emergency service building projects must design the retrofit to seismic immediate occupancy standards in order to be eligible for the grant.
