On November 6, 2008, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)
will offer its much acclaimed Annual Governmental GAAP Update by
satellite teleconference for the 13th consecutive year. Last year more
than 3,000 accounting and auditing professionals participated in this
unique interactive training opportunity at 149 sites across the country.


State employees interested in attending this training must register

As usual, the program will offer a comprehensive and practical overview
of all of the major developments in accounting and financial reporting
during the past year that affect state and local governments, with
special emphasis on the activities of the Governmental Accounting
Standards Board (GASB). Specific topics that will be addressed at this
year's teleconference include:

*	Components of fund balance and definitions of governmental fund
types (new GASB statement) 
*	Derivatives (new GASB statement) 
*	Recognition and measurement attributes (active GASB project) 
*	Implementation guidance (recent changes to the GASB's
Comprehensive Implementation Guide) 
*	Common reporting deficiencies and practice clarifications (based
on experience in the GFOA's Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in
Financial Reporting Program) 
*	Best practices in accounting and financial reporting (GFOA
recommended practices) 
*	GASB Technical Plan 
*	Service efforts and accomplishments (SEA) reporting (amendments
to GASB concepts statement and proposed guidelines for voluntary
reporting) 
*	COSO Update (new guidance on monitoring internal control)
