OVERVIEW

The National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) are pleased to announce the latest in its series of training events addressing timely issues in government auditing and financial management.

The Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (the "DATA Act"), passed into law May 9, 2014, is intended to enhance the transparency of government spending. The DATA Act amends the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (2006) by disclosing direct Federal agency expenditures and linking Federal contract, loan and grant spending info to Federal programs.

The DATA Act is also intended to:

*       Establish government-wide data standards
* Simplify reporting for entities receiving Federal funds
* Improve the quality of data
* Apply approaches developed by the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board to spending across the Federal Government

Reporting requirements under the DATA Act apply to the Federal awarding agencies. However, government-wide financial data standards will be established for all federal funds and be used by both federal agencies and recipients. These data standards include 57 common data elements for financial and payment information that were finalized in August 2015.

What do these new requirements mean for recipients of federal contracts, loans and grants? This webinar will clarify the current impact on recipients and explain what recipients can expect in the future by focusing on two primary areas:

  1. Requirements for Agency Reporting and Data Standards

     * How does the new reporting of federal agency account level data affect recipients of federal awards?
     * How do the final data standards affect recipients of federal funds?

  1. Section 5 Pilot

     * What are the areas of focus in the grants-specific portions of the pilot?
     * What are the upcoming milestones?
     * What is the intent of the pilot?
     * What will be expected of pilot participants?
     * What is the timeframe for the pilot?
     * Will the pilot participants share data with HHS?
     * What is the expected time commitment?

If your entity receives federal awards, you will not want to miss this webinar.

Participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions and share experiences during the last 15 minutes of the webinar.

Speakers:

  * Karen Lee, Chief, Management Controls and Assistance Branch, Office of Federal Financial Management, U.S. Office of Management and Budget

* Mike Peckham, Director, DATA Act Project Management Office, Office of Grants and Acquisition Policy and Accountability, U.S. Health and Human Services
