Welcome to the newsletter about Safely Reducing the Number of Oregon
Children in Foster Care, and updates about the OCCF/Casey/DHS
partnership. Have you visited the project website (

End of Year Reports -- Action Required: It's been nearly a year since
the Oregon Department of Human Services and the Oregon Commission on
Children and Families announced the partnership with national foundation
Casey Family Programs to support our efforts to safely reduce the number
of Oregon children in foster care. It's a good time to begin to gather
statewide information about our activities and progress for a year end
report. In an effort to better understand the important work each of the
counties are doing, and how we can better support you, we want to hear
from you. We want to know what has worked, what hasn*t and what we can
do in preparation for 2010. Enclosed is a form for answering these
questions. Please complete the attached "Year End Report" on your
county's activities and submit it to Catherine Stelzer
catherine.r.stelzer at state.or.us no later than December 18, 2009.
Please contact Catherine if you have any questions or need
clarification. We'll share the results after the first of the year!
Communication/Marketing/Design Support
Support to the 8 county teams for communications needs is available on
a limited basis through the Core Team and consultant LeAnn Locher
(www.leannlocher.com ( http://www.leannlocher.com/ )). LeAnn has over
15 years experience working with small and large teams on building
awareness for issues including travel in Oregon, women*s issues in
Chicago, children and families issues throughout the country, and brings
both creative and strategic skills to the table. Some of the areas she
can assist local teams include the following:
Communication material development
Strategy, writing, graphic design and production support for;
Brochures
Flyers  (for an example, see a flyer LeAnn produced for Tillamook
County*s recent community forum)
Handouts
Advertisements
Folders
Posters
Web ads/website support
Speaker support materials e.g. powerpoint
Social media strategy/support
Public awareness and public relations
Public awareness and relations plan development: how to raise awareness
of the issue at hand within your community. Plans may include audience
identification, message development, goal definition, communication
strategies for development of messages, and steps for implementation.
Media relations
 Strategies for media relations including
Pitch development
Targeted media venues
Media release writing and support
General communication counsel for issues relating to community
awareness, project recognition, and leveraging partnerships and
resources.

Because there is limited support available per team, LeAnn will work
with you directly to best assess your needs and will provide you with a
reasonable scope of work that she can accomplish.
