Oregon couple aids other parents battling addiction

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) Angela Larecy was grateful when child welfare authorities placed her two children in foster care for the third time: "I didn't want to lose my kids, but I needed help," she said.
The day before, she was drinking alone and frustrated that she couldn't kick methamphetamine.
"I remember screaming to God saying, I can't do it alone," she said
Parental drug addiction is the number one reason children in Douglas County end up in foster care. It's also why some parents never regain custody. Larecy and her husband, Rick, faced that possibility.
Their drug addictions caused them to end up homeless and in trouble with the law. But they didn't decide to get clean until their children were on the verge of being adopted. They speak openly about their experiences, hoping to encourage parents and others struggling with drug addiction and to help foster parents understand the feelings of birth parents.
