From penny.patterson2 at state.or.us Tue Feb 14 11:59:18 2012 From: penny.patterson2 at state.or.us (Penny Patterson) Date: Tue, 14 Feb 2012 19:59:18 +0000 Subject: [Cnaprogram] FW: CPR Requirement for Nursing Assistant Training from Debra Buck, RN, MS Message-ID: <3B9EF0281979CB4885A09ABF52773C752441E09A@Mazda.psob4.org> The Board has been asked to expand the options available to nursing assistant training programs in meeting the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training standards. Thus the Board is considering proposed changes to the Curriculum Content for Nursing Assistant Level One Training Programs policy at the February Board meeting. This proposed change removes the references to the specific CPR training providers and recommends minimum criteria for the nursing assistant training programs to adhere to when selecting their CPR training provider. Check out the draft language under consideration at http://www.oregon.gov/OSBN/draft_policies_rules.shtml . No organization exists that provides a national endorsement or approval for CPR certification. However, there are nationally/internationally recognized evidenced based standards for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) from the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). The American Heart Association (AHA) is the United States' representative of ILCOR. While they cannot approve, endorse, or give accreditation for CPR training for any other organization, they can publish their standards. The American Red Cross also adheres to the ILCOR standards. Each CPR certification provider is free to construct their own curriculum and teaching strategies based on the ILCOR/AHA guidelines. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
