Great – that’s wonderful to know. You must’ve had a very positive effect; his experience has sparked this interest!

I’ve heard from four so far - all in favor. I’ll give this a day or two before getting back to him.

I also wrote to Susan, too. <fingers crossed>

Yes, PatJohn was an intern for our service until a year or so ago. Strange that he's made his way back into the VR world from across the country - I'm glad to speak with him on the call as well if there are not objections from others.

Susan would be a good person to talk to. She still does vr for U. West London as well: https://uwl.libguides.com/prf.php?account_id=42305

I don't object to PatJohn joining us.

Hello wonderful VR group,

I just want to run this by you: PatJohn Ashkin and I had a conversation this morning and I thought it might be helpful for him if he could attend our next VR meeting, to meet with us and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes.

PatJohn recently moved to California. He was previously working for Florida’s Ask a Librarian service. There, he found that he really has a passion for virtual reference service and would like to explore the possibility of starting a statewide service in California. Needless to say, this is a huge undertaking. Each of you have so much to offer someone like PatJohn, with your experience and advice, as he learns about the pros/cons, how to submit a proposal for state funding/support, etc.

What do you think about having him join us at the next meeting? Would it be acceptable to have him ask the group questions in that format?

It’s fun to think that this has come full circle. Susan McGlamery, the founder of the 24/7 Cooperative, started in California I believe. I was thinking that it would be helpful for him to talk to her about the history but I am out of touch with her. Does anyone have her contact info?
