TO:	Exec. Net
	Agency Communication Staff

Based on the current weather conditions, we have decided to keep state
offices in the Valley open for the remainder of today. However, if
employees feel they need to leave early, they should be allowed to take
leave to do so.

In terms of tomorrow (Tuesday), we will decide whether to open state offices
in the Valley between 5:30 - 6:00 am. We will contact Radio and TV stations
in Portland, Salem, Corvallis and Eugene in the event state offices are
closed. Employees can also call 503-373-0850 to hear closure information.

(Closures outside of the Valley are made by the Department of Human Services
Service Delivery Area Managers per DAS Policy.)

PLEASE NOTE: Employee Leave Time:

There are different leave situations for inclement weather, given the
representation and FSLA status of employees. Each collective bargaining
agreement may contain minor deviations from the general HRSD policy.

Generally, if inclement weather forces the closure of an agency and the
employees are at work, then the employee is not required to use leave for
the remainder of the employee's shift.

If an employee chooses to leave while we are still officially open, then
they must use leave time.

If the Director of DAS determines that the state offices in a particular
location are closed, and timely announces the closure through public
communication systems (TV/radio), then employees generally will need to use
leave. If no paid leave is available then leave without pay will be
authorized. Every effort will be made to notify the appropriate media of a
closure by no later than 6:00 a.m.

FLSA-exempt employees who are unrepresented or in management/executive
service are not required to use leave for inclement weather interruptions of
less than a week.

Please distribute this information to all of your employees. Thanks and
Drive Safely!
