Governor Kulongoski Announces Executive Appointments
Appointments will fill positions on ten boards, including State Board of
Higher Education
Salem -Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced new executive
appointments to the State Board of Higher Education, Aviation Board,
Board of Boiler Rules, Home Care Commission, Lottery Commission, Oregon
Student Assistance Commission, Outdoor Youth Programs, Board on Public
Safety Standards and Training, Commission on Voluntary Action and the
Service and Water Resources Commission.
"As the final set of executive appointments for this legislative
session, I look forward to a prompt Senate confirmation for all of these
talented Oregonians," said Governor Kulongoski. "Each appointee brings a
wealth of experience and knowledge to these positions."
BACKGROUND:
State Board of Higher Education: Dr. Preston Pulliams, of Beaverton, is
the District President for the Portland Community College District and
is the former Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges for New York's
State University System.
Hannah Fisher, of Portland, is the University Affairs Director for the
Associated Students of Portland State and fills the student position on
the board.
Aviation Board: Larry Dalrymple, of Pendleton, is the Airport Manager
and Economic Development Director for the City of Pendleton. He has also
served as President of Oregon Airport Manager's Association.
Board of Boiler Rules: Jon Hooker, of Gresham, works for Oregon Health
Science University as a stationary engineer and has over 25 years in the
plumbing industry.
Home Care Commission: Lyla Swafford, of Beaverton, is a community
activist who currently serves on the Disability Services Advisory
Council for Washington County and volunteers for Good Samaritan
Ministries.
Lottery Commission: LeRon Howland, of Salem, is the retired
Superintendent of Oregon State Police and has served as chairman of the
Governor's law enforcement sub-committee studying Oregon gaming. He has
also served as General Chairman of the State and Provincial Police
Division of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Oregon Student Assistance Commission: Lorena Landeros, of Eugene, is a
student at the University of Oregon and fills the student position on
the board. She serves as a board member of the Oregon Students of Color
Commission and has served as a Multicultural Advocate for the Associated
Students of the University of Oregon.
Outdoor Youth Program: Brian Rossiter, of Bend, is the Program Director
of Second Nature Cascades Wilderness Program and has worked with
behavioral-challenged students for the past 15 years.
Board on Public Safety and Standards Training: Richard Brown, of
Portland, is a community activist who serves on the Board of Directors
for Albina Head Start and the Citizens Crime Commission. He has also
served on the Board of Directors for Willamette Riverkeepers and as a
Commissioner for the Metropolitan Arts Commission.
Commission on Voluntary Action and Service: Emily Gilliland, of
Portland, is a former AmeriCorps member who has also served on the
Maryland Commission on Service and Volunteerism.
Eva Schweber, also of Portland, has served on the board for the Portland
Habitat for Humanity, Community Nonprofit Resource Group, Association
for Neighborhood Business Associations, Portland State University's
Institute for Nonprofit Management and Oregon Public Broadcasting's
Business Partners Steering Committee.
Water Resources Commission: Raymond Williams, of Milton-Freewater, is a
board member of the Walla Walla Basin Watershed Council and has served
on the Hudson Bay Water District Board of Directors and the Umatilla
County Planning Commission.
