Statement by Governor Kulongoski on the Passing of Mac Sumner

Flags to be lowered half staff on Sunday, May 20, 2007 in honor of Mac
Sumner

Salem - Today Governor Ted Kulongoski issued the following statement
about former State Representative Mac Sumner, who passed away yesterday
evening, May 7, 2007.

"Mac Sumner was a generous and kind Oregonian who cared deeply about his
family and his community. 

"To Mac, public service was ingrained in his being, from serving in the
United States Air Force to being elected office representing the people
of Molalla as Mayor, City Councilor and later as a State Representative.

"He was committed to creating living wage jobs, strengthening Oregon's
agricultural industry and improving the education of our children.

"A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Mac will be missed by many
and remembered for his selfless work to make Oregon a better place for
us all to live."  

Today the Governor also ordered all flags at public institutions be
flown at half-staff on Sunday, May 20, 2007 in honor of Mac.
