Governor Kulongoski Visits Oregon Troops in Iraq for Veterans Day
Governor encourages Oregonians to fly flag proudly to honor those
serving and those who have served in the United States military
(Salem) - Governor Ted Kulongoski will spend Veterans Day with Oregon
National Guard troops serving in Iraq. In his third trip to Iraq since
taking office, the Governor issued the following statement to honor
those who have served and are currently serving in the United States
military.
"I want to encourage all Oregonians to recognize the men and women who
have made a commitment to honor, duty and sacrifice and served this
great state and country.
"Veterans of all generations have selflessly contributed to the safety
and prosperity of this nation. Whether during times of war or during
times of peace, veterans exemplify the best our nation has to offer.
Regardless of how difficult the task or how great the sacrifice,
America's veterans have always stepped up to the most difficult
challenges that this country has faced.
"On this Veterans Day, it is also my great honor to visit with Oregon
troops in Iraq. I am pleased to report that they are serving their
mission with honor and professionalism. They miss their family, their
friends and their home and as we all do, they very much look forward to
their return to Oregon this spring.
"As the Oregon Commander in Chief, I could not be more proud of their
efforts and dedication to their mission. As an Oregonian, I could not
be more proud to have them representing our state overseas.
"I encourage all Oregonians to fly the American flag with pride in honor
of our men and women who have served and are serving our nation, and to
keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers this Veterans
Day."
