Governor Kitzhaber Statement on the Joint Ways and Means Committee’s Unanimous Passage of the Cool School Initiative, HB 2960
(SALEM, Ore.) — Governor Kitzhaber released the following statement after HB 2960 – the Cool Schools Initiative – unanimously passed out of the Joint Ways and Means Committee this morning. HB 2960 will expand finance mechanisms for public schools across the state to perform energy efficiency upgrades.
“The Cool Schools initiative is a central job creation tool for our entire state, and I am pleased that the Ways and Means Committee has taken this step,” says Governor Kitzhaber. “Studies show that for every $1 million we invest in energy efficiency upgrades, we create as many as 15 good, family-wage jobs. Cool Schools puts people back to work, saves significant dollars to put back in the classroom and makes schools healthier places to teach and learn. I urge the Legislature to pass this bill so we can get to work in urban and rural communities with Cool Schools upgrades this summer.”
