Governor Kitzhaber Statement on
May Job Growth



(SALEM, Ore.) —  Governor Kitzhaber released the following statement after Oregon’s job numbers for May were announced:
 
“As today’s continued drop of Oregon’s unemployment rate confirms, the recovery is underway. We are getting Oregonians back to work, but we need to make sure that this recovery reaches all of our communities. I am pleased to see the Legislature moving forward on our Jobs and Economy Agenda, including the Cool Schools initiative and industrial lands legislation so we can keep the momentum going across the state.”  

Oregon Employment Department announced today that Oregon’s unemployment rate was 9.3% in May and the April rate was revised from 9.6% to 9.5%. Oregon’s total nonfarm payroll employment grew by 1,300 in May, following a revised gain of 1,100 in April. So far in 2011, 16,800 jobs have been created in Oregon.
