Governor Kitzhaber to Sign Cool Schools Bill into Law

Key Job Creation Program Launches this Summer

(SALEM, Ore.) —  Tomorrow, June 23, Governor Kitzhaber will sign House Bill 2960 -- Cool Schools -- into law. Cool schools will provide access to financing for school districts to fix leaky roofs, upgrade inefficient lighting and heating, and make other improvements through a Clean Energy Deployment Fund.  Cool Schools is a centerpiece of the Governor’s Jobs and Economy Agenda. Construction projects will begin this summer in up to 43 schools in 13 urban and rural districts across the state. The Governor will be joined by Dallas School District Superintendent Christy Perry, legislators and supporters.

“Cool Schools is a triple-win for Oregon,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “This program will bring family-wage jobs, cost savings, and better learning environments to schools in communities across the state.”
