There will be a lot of activity in the Oregon Legislature this week related to CTE funding. If you have had a chance to listen to any testimony on bills related to CTE, you will hear a high level of support.
A new bill (HB 3511) proposes grant funding to promote computer science education. You can learn more about the hearing at https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Committees/HHEDIW/2015-04-08-08-00/Agenda . The hearing starts at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 8. A recording of the proceedings will probably be available later in the day.
A variety of CTE funding bills will have hearings and work sessions on Wednesday, April 8 at 1:00 pm. You can access information about that meeting on https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Committees/SWF/2015-04-08-13-00/Agenda .
Recent amendments of SB 129 have included possible long-term revenue for secondary CTE programs. You can view the bill and find the testimony at https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Measures/Overview/SB129 .
The Oregon Department of Education proposed agency budget still includes CTE Revitalization Grant funding. Testimony about the budget (HB 5016) is completed. At some point the bill will move out of its current committee. Currently there are no scheduled meetings related to HB 5016.
The Oregon Department of Education is officially neutral on most bills. We are providing this information as a service to help you plan for possible CTE funding opportunities. It is still too early in the session for definitive statements about funding. Some of these bills overlap in their purpose and may be consolidated, some may die after April 10, and some will move forward.
