Attention Public Colleges and Universities: Upcoming RFP for STEM Programs

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) is pleased to share an upcoming opportunity. The 2015 Oregon Legislature provided start-up funding of $2 million to recruit, retain and support underserved students for programs offered at community colleges and public universities that lead to high wage and high demand jobs related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), specifically: health sciences, computer science, engineering, high tech manufacturing, precision agriculture and advance food processing.

The HECC is developing a request for proposal (RFP) which will be issued in January 2016. The RFP scope will include a focus on students of color and women, with an ultimate goal of increased participation and degree/certificate completion in STEM fields. Investments will be made available to expand existing projects or to stand up new programs which show promise and utilize established best practices. These competitive grants will be available to Oregon’s 17 community colleges, seven public universities, and the Oregon Health & Sciences University; the grants will range in size from $150,00 -$350,000.
