Good afternoon ACFR Contacts,

It's with great excitement that I share that the Office of the State Controller has been created! This new Office, which will be part of the DAS Chief Financial Office, will bring together the statewide accounting functions to better serve state agencies in a cohesive and integrated manner. Though details continue to be ironed out, SARS, SFMS, and Datamart Support will be part of the Office of the State Controller. Additionally, I have been given the opportunity to serve as the State Controller. Over the coming weeks and months I will be sharing additional information about the Office of the State Controller, but our objective will be to provide state agency accounting offices and their teams the tools and resources necessary to be successful with their accounting responsibilities.

Coinciding with this announcement, I am starting the recruitment for the SARS Manager (Accounting Manager 3). As part of the creation of the Office of the State Controller, I have adjusted the duties of the SARS Manager to focus solely on managing the team that assists agencies with interpreting GAAP, maintaining the relevant portions of the OAM, assisting agencies with year-end closing, and preparing the ACFR.

I started out as the SARS Manager on an interim basis on December 1, 2013, and began serving as the permanent SARS Manager on May 1, 2014. Serving in this position has been incredibly rewarding, providing a unique avenue, and space, to research and contemplate complex accounting issues facing state government while leading a phenomenal group of people, who also happen to be top notch accounting professionals. As I embark on this new role, I will continue to have involvement with the SARS team though it will morph into one of support for the new SARS Manager as they take the team to new heights.
