Good morning HR & Payroll Partners,

CPERS would like to take this opportunity to remind agencies of The Uniform Services Employment Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).

USERRA is a federal reemployment law that protects the jobs of employees who are called to service, ensuring that they have employment to return to after military duty.  USERRA also protects employment benefits such as health insurance and retirement contributions.

The CPERS website has a USERRA Guide<https://www.oregon.gov/das/Financial/Payroll/Documents/USERRA_GUIDE.pdf> that provides details what USERRA is, who is eligible for it and what agencies are required to do in order for retirement contributions to be applied. If you have employees that have returned to work from Military Service, please refer to the USERRA Guide to determine if a USERRA Certification Form needs completed to make their PERS retirement account whole.
