Here are a few additional tips for OBIEE/Datamart.


  1.  When creating formula, in OBIEE, make sure to check the 'Aggregation rule'. Normally, OBIEE will automatically select an appropriate option; however, it is best practice to verify the rule and change as needed. For example, anytime the formula will be a dollar type figure, you should set it to 'sum', even if it is automatically set to 'default' by OBIEE.
     *   Aggregation rules have a big effect on the totals of table/pivot views.


  1.  Along with the standard 'Agency' and 'Date' filters, it is highly recommended to add a 'GL Acct' filter to your queries. If you do not, you could be pulling both sides of a transaction. Due to the great summing function in OBIEE, having both sides of a transaction could provide you with very little data as the data could offset.

  2.  If you run into 'error' messages in OBIEE, please, initially try to close your browser. Then reopen and relog into OBIEE. This can help fix some issues that have occurred.
     *   When sending 'error' message info to Datamart support, please include a screen shot of the error along with the file name and directory.

  3.  If your goal is to obtain a percentage of a field within a Pivot, you can use the 'duplicate layer' function.
     *   Go into 'edit' mode of the 'Pivot' view. Next, duplicate the 'measures' field (ex. 'number of hours'). On the new field, use the wheel icon and select the 'show data as' and 'percent of' and then whatever option you desire. If you want a value to show percent of the 'column', then select it. If you want it to show as a 'layer', such as of 'Employee name' (field hidden in below example) then select it. This is a very easy feature and can be used in many ways.
