Hello friends:

Tuesday, June 15 will be my last day at the Department of Human Services. The
16th, I begin a new position at the Department of Housing and Community
Services.

My new job will provide an opportunity to learn a new business. I'm not really
leaving the world of human services, either. The two departments share a goal
of helping Oregonians live as independently as possible with dignity and
quality of life.

For my family, the change is very positive, too. I will be a half-time
employee and more free to support my kids in their learning and growth.

This transition is bittersweet; the hardest part is leaving the people who
have made this work so rewarding.

At the office, a talented group of people keeps this place running. Their
commitment to service and the people of Oregon kept me at the department for
eight years.

Most of all, it's the advocates who have made this work feel less like a job.
Your tenacity and resilience symbolizes hope for a better world for Oregon's
most vulnerable citizens. "If one truly has lost hope, one would not be around
to say so." (Eric Bentley)

I hope our paths will cross again.

After June 15, and until my successor is appointed, please contact Cindy
Becker, DHS Deputy Director, at cindy.becker at state.or.us or (503) 945-5944
with your questions.

Take care of yourselves!
