January is Stalking Awareness Month - How You Can Help.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a crime
that affects 3.4 million victims each year. Stalking is not a single,
easily identifiable act but a series of acts, a course of conduct
directed at a specific person that would cause that person fear. It
takes on many forms, such as assaults, threats, vandalism, burglary, or
animal abuse, as well as unwanted cards, text messages, calls, gifts, or
visits.

Mary's Place, Saving Grace's supervised child exchange and visitation
center, strives to increase safety for victims of stalking and to
prevent violence from occurring during parent/child visits and child
exchanges. However, victims in rural areas often struggle to afford the
cost of driving distances of up to 45 miles to reach Mary's Place for a
visit or a safe exchange. For some, it becomes a decision about whether
to buy groceries or pay for gas. For those victims who cannot afford
both gas and food, they may be forced to meet face-to-face with their
abuser in a parking lot or a friend's home, in order to facilitate a
visit or exchange. Batterers can take this opportunity to interrogate
and intimidate victims. Many homicides of victims and children have
occurred across the country during such unsafe exchanges. It for this
reason that specialized centers such as Mary's Place were created.
Help us serve our families: Donate gas cards (including gift
certificates to Fred Meyers) so families can utilize our program - the
only one of its kind in Central Oregon.

Contact Saving Grace's administrative offices at 541-382-9227 with
questions or to donate. Learn more about Mary's Place

IRA Charitable Contributions Extended to Jan. 2011

IRA charitable rollover provision is retroactive to January 1, 2010 and
is effective through December 31, 2011. The provision provides that an
owner of a traditional or Roth IRA may distribute to a public charity,
up to $100,000 a year without the distribution being included in taxable
income, and the distribution will count toward the donor's mandatory
withdrawal amount. To qualify for IRA rollover treatment:

*	The donor must direct the IRA manager to transfer funds directly
to a charity. (A withdrawal followed by a contribution still has to be
reported as income.)
*	The donor must be at least age 70-1/2.
*	The donee must be a tax-exempt organization to which deductible
contributions can be made.
*	Donor advised funds and supporting organizations are not
eligible.

In order to qualify the gift must be outright, not to a gift annuity or
charitable remainder trust, and distributions from employer-sponsored
retirement plans, such as Simple IRAs, 401(k)s, and 403(b)s, also don't
qualify.

The new law recognizes that there is little time left in 2010 to take
advantage of this opportunity. Therefore, the law allows donors to
elect to treat rollovers that occur in January 2011 as if they were made
on December 31, 2010. Donors who make this election will count their
January 2011 gift against the $100,000 limitation applicable to 2010
rather 2011. They may also count the rollover amount as part of their
required minimum distribution for 2010. Make a donation to Saving Grace
by designating your IRA rollover today. Contact your financial adviser
for more information.
