The article titled "National Survey on Children's Exposure to Violence:
Witnessing Domestic Violence Is Associated With Other Forms of Childhood
Victimization" in our February newsletter contained an error regarding
the strong association between domestic violence and custodial
interference. About 1 in 5 children and youth who have a lifetime
history of witnessing domestic violence also experience custodial
interference, compared to only 1.5% of children who have never witnessed
partner violence.

 Chiquita Rollins Retirement Celebration

Chiquita Rollins

Please join us on Friday, March 11, 2011, from 12:15 to 1:30 at the
Portland Building, 1120 SW 5th Avenue, Room 2B. Light refreshments will
be provided.

This month's Family Violence Coordinating Council (FVCC) meeting
provides an opportunity for FVCC, Multnomah County and community
partners to honor Chiquita Rollins for her 19 years of advocacy for
victims of domestic violence in Oregon.

Chiquita is retiring after serving for more than 16 years as Multnomah
County's first Domestic Violence Coordinator. Through her work at
Multnomah County, Chiquita has helped shape domestic violence services
and policies throughout Oregon.

In 1994, Multnomah County and the City of Portland jointly committed
ongoing funding to create the Domestic Violence Coordinator position,
responsible for policy advice, technical assistance and staffing to
support effective domestic violence intervention and prevention. As the
first coordinator, Chiquita provided strong leadership to expand and
develop innovative and effective responses to domestic violence.

Through her clear vision and strong voice for a well-coordinated and
victim-centered approach, she has also brought significant funding and
statewide and national recognition for Multnomah county programs. She
has participated in and led the development of new service models such
as the DVERT and DVRU law enforcement programs, culturally specific
victim services programs, expanded transitional housing options, and an
expanded range of victim services for women and their children surviving
domestic violence. Her leadership has encouraged all of us to move
beyond "one-size-fits-all" programs to meet the complex needs that
survivors and their families face everyday.

The Family Violence Coordinating Council and Multnomah County invite
you to help us celebrate Chiquita's and to show our appreciation and
gratitude for the contributions she has made in the efforts to end
domestic violence.
