Hello,
I thought I would share an article that a colleague recently sent to me.
The link below will take you to the article that appeared in the
"Emergency Medicine Reports: The Practical Journal for Emergency
Physicians".
While there is a lot of technical medical jargon (to be expected, I
suppose, in this type of journal), I could see how this information
might be helpful for a better in-depth understanding of the mechanism
and results of strangulation (compared to other forms of asphyxia).
Prosecutors, especially, could use the article's information while
cross-examining a defense witness or for preparing your own medical
expert.
Also interesting is the article's discussion of the current imaging
sources used to detect strangulation injuries. I know that there are
some Oregon jurisdictions that are looking into purchasing such
technology...
