State Attorney General Supports Strangulation Bill:
Oregon's Attorney General John Kroger is supporting House Bill 2940,
which would change the crime of strangulation from a misdemeanor to a
felony offense.
A recent article in the Mail Tribune out of Medford points out the
importance in passing this legislation. According to the National
Coalition Against Domestic Violence, strangulation is one of the top
five risk factors in domestic violence homicides.
"Smothering, choking, strangulation-- call it what you will. It is past
time Oregon law recognize this crime as a felony act," said Kroger as he
asked for support of the bill he helped write.
Kroger is asking for help in getting HB 2940 passed, by voicing your
support to our local representatives.
Studies show 57% of domestic violence murder victims had been strangled,
said Kroger in the article found in the Mail Tribune.
