Subject: [cvsd-grants] [VOCA-NEWS] 2013 NCVRW Funding Opportunity
For the seventh year, NAVAA will be managing the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Community Awareness Project (NCVRW CAP). Under this program, NAVAA will reimburse at least 60 communities for up to $5,000 each to promote crime victims’ rights and services during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 21 - 27, 2012. We are pleased to announce the availability of funds earlier this year in order to afford recipients more time to plan and implement their projects.
Below (and attached) is an announcement that I hope you will distribute widely within your state and encourage eligible agencies and organizations to apply for this funding. We have found that most applicants learn about funding through their state VOCA assistance administrators, so your cooperation is essential.
The deadline for application submission is Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Additional information is available on the NCVRW CAP website: http://cap.navaa.org or contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week
Community Awareness Projects
The National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA), through a grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, is seeking proposals for innovative and collaborative approaches to promoting community‐wide public awareness of the rights and available services for victims of all types of crimes during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 21 - 27, 2013.
Approximately 60 communities will be awarded up to $5,000 each in reimbursement for approved NCVRW public awareness activities through the NCVRW Community Awareness Project. Public agencies, nonprofit organizations, community‐based victim service organizations, faith‐based organizations, tribal organizations, and community coalitions committed to advocating for the rights and services of crime victims are among those encouraged to apply.
Over the past 7 years, the NCVRW Community Awareness Project has aided more than 500 communities to raise general public awareness about victims’ rights and services. Within many of these communities, “traditional” NCVRW events were enhanced by the collaborative partnerships that were formed during the planning phase of each project.
Proposals should emphasize general public awareness of rights and services for victims of all types of crimes, and not focus on individual victim populations or activities targeted to specific, limited audiences.
Examples of allowable costs include: purchase of advertising in print media, radio, television, or outdoor advertising to promote NCVRW events, victims’ rights, and available services; design and production of promotional materials, such as trinkets and giveaway items that relate to NCVRW; support for event speakers; design and print of posters, invitations, and fliers; purchase of supplies, materials, and equipment used in public awareness events and activities; and rental of space to conduct NCVRW activities and events. Salaries, overhead, food/beverages, entertainment, and fundraising costs are not eligible for reimbursement.
The deadline to apply for this funding opportunity is Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Visit the NAVAA Community Awareness Project Web site at http://cap.navaa.org to learn more about NCVRW Community Awareness Project Funding, including application instructions and forms.
