Yamhill County Domestic Violence Task Force presents
4th Annual Domestic Violence Summit
Friday, October 25th 8am-5pm
McMinnville Chemeketa Campus, 288 NE Norton Lane, McMinnnville, OR 97128
FREE Conference
This is a free training for individuals from agencies and organizations within our community and neighboring counties, covering topics around the dynamics of domestic violence and our community response. This conference is specifically designed to bring together a range of disciplines including law enforcement, mental health, prosecution, advocacy, medical community, non-profit community partners, and the faith community.

This year's Summit speaker will be Mr. Greg Schmidt of the Seattle Police Department. Lunch will be provided with a case presentation during the lunch hour.

About Greg Schmidt
Mr. Greg Schmidt received his teaching degree from the University of Washington. After teaching high school for a short period he entered the field of law enforcement in 1986. He has been actively working domestic violence issues in his department and at the local, state and federal level for well over a decade. As a Sergeant with the Seattle Police Department he drafted policies and created training guides and videos on the existing and changing laws in the field of domestic violence. In 1994, he was assigned the task to create a specialized Domestic Violence Investigative Unit. This unit became a model for other law enforcement agencies around the country. He received recognition and awards for his work to include "Outstanding Domestic Violence Investigator" from the Seattle City Prosecutor's Office.

In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he currently commands the warrant unit within the Seattle Police Department. He has conducted research into the laws and statewide policies on domestic violence. His research has included an extensive review of domestic violence related homicides. He has appeared on radio talk shows, newspaper, television and has presented to civic groups and colleges. He volunteers as a domestic violence victim's advocate and is active in several local organizations that work on family violence and family law issues.

Mr. Schmidt brings scenario based training as much as possible to a classroom /lecture setting. Adult learners, especially professionals, have shown they are more open to new ideas and concepts and they really appreciate how to apply what they already know about the laws, policies, and best practices when you can bring it into a real life situation.

This conference will focus on the following:

Investigating Family Violence: Law Enforcement response to Domestic Violence to include Intimate Partner Violence, Teen Dating Violence, Elder Abuse, and Financial Exploitation.

- A practical scenario based approach to enhancing your primary response and Follow-up Investigations at incidents of domestic violence

- Focus on evidence-based best practices for patrol officers upon their initial response and in detectives follow-up investigations in preparation of changing victim and witness testimony

- Increased attention has been brought to bear on elder abuse and financial exploitation in our communities; what is the criminal justice response today and what can we do to protect ourselves as we all will, hopefully, enter the age one day where we become a potential class of victims
There is limited space available. Please register by October 11th. Information and registration is available on the Yamhill County Domestic Violence Task Force website under DV Summit at www.domesticviolenceresources.org<http://www.domesticviolenceresources.org>.
