Subject: Senate votes
The Senate voted 96-1 in favor of an amendment by Sen. Gregg (R-NH) that
would provide full funding, but not mandatory full funding for IDEA over
a period of the next few years. The Senate voted 56-41 on the
Hagel-Harkin mandatory full funding amendment, but it needed 58 votes to
pass (2/3 of those present and voting). The vote was bi-partisan with
most, but not all Democrats voting yes and most, but not all,
Republicans voting no. I'll send out the individual member votes as
soon as it is posted. The Senate is now debating Sen. Clinton's
amendment to add the Dept. of Education to the National Child Study.
This is a non-controversial amendment that should pass easily.
