The announcement below is being forwarded to you on behalf of:

Nancy Latini, PhD
Assistant Superintendent
Student Learning & Partnerships

______________________________________________

The Office of Student Learning & Partnerships (OSL&P) is announcing two
changes to the special education dispute resolution system.

In the past few years, parties to a due process hearing have had the
opportunity to participate in the selection of an administrative law
judge. The OSLP is discontinuing this practice because of various
concerns specified by participants in the process. More information
about this process is available in the Spring Dispute Resolution
Newsletter (pages 7-8), posted at:
http://www.ode.state.or.us/sped/spedlegal/newsletter/vol1issue2spring.pd
f

Second, the OSLP will no longer be using student initials in complaint
and due process hearing decisions. In many cases this practice makes it
too easy to identify the particular student involved in the complaint or
due process hearing.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please
contact Suzy Harris, Legal Specialist, at (503) 378-3600, Ext. 2333, or
