RE: IDEA GRANTS FOR ENHANCEMENT AND EXTENDED ASSESSMENT TRAINING
*** Important Notice***
Shortly you will receive a notification for an enhancement grant which
also includes funds for training on the extended assessments. You
received a message last week about your allocation for the extended
assessment training. The additional enhancement allocation is the same
as last year. In other words, the notification will include (1) funds
to support training for extended assessments and (2) funds for
enhancement trainings. You will need to go back to the message about
extended assessment allocations to determine that amount or back to see
what your enhancement grant was last year and subtract that amount to
determine the assessment allocation. More specifically, the grant
notification will cover both funds for training on extended assessments
and enhancement funds to further staff activities related to special
education.
When claiming these funds you will not have to account for the separate
amounts as they all are categorized as funds to support students with
disabilities through professional development.
The extended assessment allocation should be spent on activities which
support staff for training on the administration or actual
administration of the extended assessments.
The enhancement grants, similar to last year may be used for such things
as:
1. Further training in extended assessments
2. RTI efforts
3. BPS efforts
4. Expanded SPR&I activities
5. Determination issues
6. Trainings specifically related to support for students with
disabilities
7. Other activities that enhance the understanding of and process for
special education
The grant's funds may not be used to purchase equipment, or to pay for
existing staff payroll or benefit costs. Substitute costs which enable
select staff to attend trainings are allowable.
Please consider a plan for spending these valuable funds in a timely
manner. We learn that waiting for the last minute does not benefit
students or staff in efforts to enhance instruction or support. The
last day to encumber funds will be September 30, 2008.
