RE: Alternate Assessment Development (2%)
Please see the message below regarding Oregon's Alternate Assessment
based on Modified Achievement Standards
The following link
http://websurveyor.airws.org/ss/wsb.dll/6/AAMAS_survey.htm will provide
you with access to a survey designed to measure your perceptions of our
current progress of development on the state's Alternate Assessment
based on Modified Achievement Standards (AA-MAS). The assessment, once
developed, is intended to meet the needs of students with IEPs who have
previously been inappropriately served by either the Extended
Assessments (which is designed for use by students with significant
cognitive disabilities) or by the General Assessments (when taken either
with or without accommodations).
The documents that you will review and comment on are designed to assist
IEP team members in determining a student's eligibility for the AA-MAS
based on instructional information and on the nature of the student's
progress in the curriculum. These documents expand on guidance provided
by the US Department of Education in regulations posted in April 2007
which describes the population of students as "students whose disability
has precluded them from achieving grade-level proficiency and whose
progress is such that they will not reach grade-level achievement
standards in the same time frame as other students."
For more information on the federal guidance surrounding Alternate
Assessments based on Modified Achievement Standards (AA-MAS) please
review the federal regulations posted at the following link
http://www.ed.gov/legislation/FedRegister/finrule/2007-2/040907a.pdf
Your participation in this survey will be extremely helpful to us as we
proceed with the next steps of development. For additional questions
