I agree that this would be excellent training. I will make sure we have
a representative for SOS for the 1st and 5th floors.
Once I know the training is scheduled, I will let you know the
attendees from SOS.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Buildings that have people crossing busy streets in
evacuations.
SECs, do your people have to cross a street in an evacuation? Are
there
people from your building trained to safely stop traffic? Are they
still
there or have they moved on?
After receiving this email in 2001, we offered the training we had in
1998. We've now been requested to offer it again.
"I noticed that evacuation personnel from the Revenue Building had
stop
signs and clothing that identified them to be in an official capacity
and were not letting traffic go by on Capitol Street. This allowed the
people exiting the building to walk directly across the street and
into
the parking lot. For our building, people bunched up at the cross
walks
waiting for the light to change. Some people were trying to control
traffic at the intersection of Capitol and Marion to allow people to
cross Capitol without stopping. They were wearing nothing that
indicated
that they were doing this in an official capacity. Is there a way to
divert traffic in an evacuation situation off of Capitol so that
people
evacuating our building can go directly into the parking lot without
having to deal with vehicular traffic?"
Trained crossing guard volunteers help get your employees quickly and
safely across a street. We suggest you also train a backup for each
guard. The training will be done by Dave White, former Safety Manager
of
ODOT. If there is sufficient interest, the course will be offered with
the cost borne by DAS Risk Management.
SECs, please coordinate the registration from your building. Then,
contact Luella Ackerson at the above email address or at 503-373-0706
to
reserve spaces. Tell her how many you need.
