[Fruitsandveggies] Physical Activity and Nutrition Program Update

Some of may have received this information earlier. I apologize for the cross postings.
 
We have learned from the CDC that Oregon will not be refunded for our public health program focused on physical activity, nutrition, and obesity after June 30, 2008.  Our application for funding for a new 5-year cooperative agreement with CDC (2008-2013) was “approved but not funded”.
 
Unfortunately for Oregon, that means we will not longer have funding to support our PAN Program staff – John Chism, Joan Ottinger, Brian Ritacco, David Hudson, and Haley Smith.  These staff have been very instrumental in supporting many initiatives across the state to promote physical activity and healthy eating in many settings and their loss will have a significant impact. 
 
One result of these changes is that the Fruits and Veggies Listserv will be discontinued at the end of this month. 
 
We want to reassure our partners that the Public Health Division remains committed to supporting the 2007-2012 Statewide Physical Activity & Nutrition Plan and those public health interventions that effectively support physical activity and healthy eating, and prevent obesity and other chronic diseases.  It will take us a little while to figure out a plan for prioritizing and reassigning activities and will want to involve many of you in the process of figuring out what the priorities are and who can do what.  Thank you for your patience and your continued participation with us.
