Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice At Work

Most adults spend many of their waking hours at their place of employment making
 the worksite an excellent setting to promote fruits and veggies and healthy eating.
Create a supportive workplace environment where "the healthy choice is the easy 
choice." Here are some strategies to promote fruits and veggies at your worksite.

Tips for Promoting Fruits and Veggies

Create a Supportive Environment

Offer fruit and vegetable snacks as a healthy alternative at meetings, trainings,
events and parties.

Explore the restaurants close to work and make a "go to" list of those that offer
a good variety of low-fat fruits and vegetables on their menu.

Have a contest to see who can eat the recommended servings of fruits and veggies
 all month long. Give out prizes to the winners.

Educate and Inform

Distribute brochures, email tips and recipes that show the benefits of eating fruits
and vegetables and how to prepare healthy meals throughout the day. Contact our 
office for resources.

Host a "Lunch and Learn" talk. Invite a guest speaker or chef and serve a fruit 
or veggie snack.

Hold a fruit and veggie recipe swap or a contest to find the best fruit or veggie
recipe or tip.

Collaborate with the Cafeteria

Give coupons, subsidies and/or discounts for purchasing healthy meals either at 
worksite cafeterias or at restaurants and stores that are located close to workplaces.

Ask your company to stock vending machines with raisins, other dried fruits, individual
servings of canned fruits and 100% juice.

Display point of purchase signs in the cafeteria and by vending machines that provide
nutritional information and encourage employees to eat more fruits and veggies.

Share the Harvest

Promote existing farmers markets or start a farmers market at your worksite.

Arrange with local growers or produce distributors to have a box of produce delivered
weekly to subscribing employees.

Plant a worksite vegetable and herb garden. Have a healthy potluck featuring produce
from the garden.
