INTERN ANNOUNCEMENT

The State of Oregon has an intern opportunity for an undergraduate or
graduate student seeking experience with coordination of
multi-jurisdictional GIS data for use in the 2010 Census.

Position Description

This is a paid internship working for the Oregon State Legislature in
Salem. This internship involves working with Oregon counties to collect
and update GIS data for use in the 2010 Census. It will involve
learning the U.S. Census Bureau's software application and training
county GIS officials in its use; additional duties may include:

*	Providing assistance for counties that do not have GIS resources
(e.g., inputting data from paper maps in GIS)
*	Performing QA/QC review of data received back from the counties
to make sure it is ready for submission to the Census Bureau
*	Verifying that current Census spatial data defining Oregon's
legislative districts is accurate and revising existing FGDC Metadata to
reflect any changes

This person will report to the Oregon State Census Liaison in the
Legislature, but also interact with Oregon State GIS officials and U.S.
Census Bureau staff in Seattle. The GIS Intern will be responsible for
the technical questions and aspects of the project, working closely with
a coordinator who will handle any policy related issues.

The work can be performed on a schedule that works for the student, and
possibly be performed remotely, with communication between the intern
and Legislative staff as needed. Some tasks may need to be completed in
Salem; scheduling can be flexible. The State of Oregon will consider
paying travel costs between Corvallis and Salem.

We estimate the position will require approximately 5-10 hours per week,
which may vary depending on the phase of the project. We need to have an
intern by September 30 to attend an all-day training by the Census
Bureau in Salem. Salary range is $12-$15 per hour (commensurate with
experience). Temporary positions are limited to 6 months (or 1040 hours
whichever comes first) and are not eligible for benefits.
