Seeking: GIS Technician/Cartographer with 3+ years of experience.

 

For: ArcGIS Technical and Business Development Support

 

-20 hrs/week minimum, negotiable schedule, downtown Union Station office.

 

Real Urban Geographics LLC (www.realurban.com), a sole-proprietor GIS
services and consulting company in Portland, is beginning its sixth year and
growing steadily.  I'm looking for a GIS technician with an entrepreneurial
edge ready to tackle tasks related to my GIS technical and cartography work.
Secondary responsibilities may include business development assignments in
marketing support and research as the company makes a move to new industry
sectors.

 

This position is responsible for GIS-related tasks including data collection
and aggregation, production of high-quality cartography, data management and
attribution, and basic geoprocessing in an ArcGIS 9.3 environment.  The
successful candidate will have solid, demonstrated ArcGIS 9.3 experience, an
ability to pick up new tools and methods quickly, and exceptional
cartographic design skills.  Experience with Spatial Analyst and grid-based
analytical methods is very helpful.  Experience with Network Analyst and/or
Business Analyst is attractive, but not necessary.  Education and/or work
experience in urban planning, transportation planning, or environmental
science is very desirable. S/he will also have the ability to take on
support roles for various business development responsibilities such as
market research, maintenance of a marketing database, presentation support,
and advertising.

 

Pay is $22/hour for a minimum of 20 hours per week, consisting of
approximately 75% structured time, 25% flex time.  Benefits include $50 per
month parking stipend OR a Tri-Met pass AND 2 hours per month paid time for
GIS-related training.  Employees are encouraged to take advantage of an
additional 2 hours per month paid time in a volunteer endeavor of their
choice.  Health insurance is not offered for this position.  The position
duration is for a minimum of 6 months, with a longer duration or
temporary-to-full-time status anticipated.
