Pre-Conference Training Course: Creating Effective Web Applications
using ArcGIS Server 

Learn the basic design principles for creating Web mapping applications
that are attractive, fast, and easy to use.  In course exercises, you
will work with the lightweight ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs (using your
choice of ArcGIS API: Flex, JavaScript, or Microsoft Silverlight/WPF) to
create a focused application that utilizes internal and external ArcGIS
Server Web services.  This class is intended for GIS analysts and others
who want to create Web mapping applications to extend the use of GIS
data to non-GIS departments within an organization or to the general
public via the Internet.  No Web development experience is required.
Esri instructor.  Esri Certificates of Completion given at the end of
the class.

 

ESRI Northwest Update - Wednesday, September 15       11:00 a.m. - Noon

Increasing Productivity with ArcGIS 10 - Wednesday, September 15    1:30
p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This session shows how ArcGIS 10 can make it easier to be more
productive in your job, whether you're working in a desktop, mobile,
server, or cloud environment. Topics and demonstrations highlight
improvements to the ArcGIS 10 system to better support the creation,
management, analysis, and dissemination of information. Learn how to:

*         Manage imagery more efficiently in desktop and server

*         Leverage online content available through ArcGIS.com

*         Perform improved spatial analysis using new time-aware tools,
3D editing, and Python scripting 

*         Extend GIS into the field with new resources for deploying
mobile applications

*         Simplify custom application developments using improved web
APIs, add-ins, and streamlined ArcObjects software development kits. 

Migrating to ArcGIS 10   Thursday, September 16   8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

This session will delve into strategies for migrating to ArcGIS 10.
Topics include licensing concepts, best practices for migration,
geodatabase migration techniques, and Esri resources and services that
can assist you with your migration. 

 

What Does Gov 2.0 Mean To You?   Thursday, September 16   8:30 a.m. -
10:00 a.m.

In nearly every state and local government jurisdiction, staff is
talking about Gov 2.0.  But, what is Gov 2.0 and are we ready to embrace
it?  This session will be delivered in two parts. The first part of the
session will define Gov 2.0 in simple terms and explain the key
components of it - transparency, collaboration, social media, cloud
computing and applications.  The second part will be a live "tour" of
the new Esri Local Government Resource Center.  There are many free
tools available at the Resource Center that complement Gov 2.0.  The key
features will be shown - data models, templates, maps, and applications.

 

 Introduction to Python Scripting for Map Automation in ArcGIS 10
Thursday, September 16   8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

ArcGIS 10 introduces the ability to automate mapping tasks through a new
Python mapping module. This session will provide an overview of the
arcpy.mapping module and will demonstrate how it can be used to process
map documents, layers, data frames, and layouts in batch. This session
is for GIS professionals that are looking for an easier way to develop
automated tasks without necessarily having to learn the complexities of
ArcObjects and sophisticated development environments as well as those
that are interested in understanding how Python development fits within
the overall ArcGIS scripting/customization framework. Attendees will
also be introduced to the best resources and fastest ways to start
writing their own mapping scripts in ArcGIS 10. This 90 minute
introduction serves as a prerequisite for those interested in the
hands-on workshops taking place during the conference.

 

Hands-on Workshop: Python Scripting for Map Automation in ArcGIS 10
Thursday, September 16   3 SESSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM: 10:30 a.m. - Noon;
1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.; 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This hands-on workshop is for GIS professionals that are responsible for
managing map documents, layer files, and automating maps within their
organization. This is a great opportunity for those that want to test
drive Esri's scripting environment for map automation and get a good
sense for how it works and what it can accomplish. You will have the
opportunity to try the new arcpy.mapping module by following along
during demonstrations and then try your hand at some challenging tasks
to solve on your own (or get help with). This will also be a great
opportunity to learn the finer details of what can be accomplished using
the arc.py mapping scripting environment.

Special notes: 

Three hands-on workshops are offered. Each workshop accommodates 20
people. Please visit the Esri booth to reserve a seat.  

Prerequisites: Introduction to Python Scripting for Map Automation in
ArcGIS 10 (Thursday, September 16   8:30 - 10:00 a.m.), and some
familiarity with general scripting and/or Python scripting.
