Join the GIS community at one of the nation's most spatially advanced Departments of Transportation. The GIS and Roadway Data office of WSDOT is looking for a GIS Application Specialist to facilitate the successful application development cycle for a dynamic variety of GIS software applications. This position will work closely with WSDOT staff from many divisions of the agency to develop and support GIS applications. These applications may integrate with other enterprise systems and/or with an enterprise Service Oriented Architecture. Most software development will take place within the .NET framework in conjunction with products such as ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, ArcGIS Explorer and ArcGIS Mobile. The incumbent will serve as a key technical expert in developing GIS desktop, server and mobile applications. The incumbent will also serve as an advisor for updating existing GIS applications in various business areas. 

Note:  This recruitment is now open to external candidates.

Successful candidate will: 

*	Be a proficient communicator, written and verbal, able to conduct productive meetings with groups representing a wide range of technical/business backgrounds.  
*	Be proficient in the use of, and best practices related to, various software development tools, including source code repositories, issue tracking tools, and unit testing frameworks.  
*	Command the skills necessary to analyze business requirements and design appropriate solutions in support of high risk/impact, mission critical projects/systems.  
*	Be driven to succeed through the success of his/her customers and, and the success of the team's collaborative efforts.  
*	Possess extensive C# .NET development experience using Microsoft Visual Studio.  
*	Possess extensive development experience with one or more of the following: ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Engine, ArcGIS Explorer, ArcGIS Desktop.  
*	Possess extensive software development experience.  
*	Possess extensive experience as a successful software development team member.  
*	Possess extensive experience working with/on complex enterprise scale projects. 

Please note: Due to rapid changes and updates in technology, preference will be given to candidates who have recent experience. 


Desired Qualifications Include:  

*	Significant experience working with certified Project Managers.  
*	Significant experience working with professional data modelers.  
*	Some experience with the use of GIS within the transportation industry.  
*	Understanding of UML diagrams and symbols.  
*	Understanding of SOA and spatial services. 

Note: This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.
