2011 - Learn the Basics of gvSIG Open Source Desktop GIS!
Message-ID: <85CACB356AB7467F9F0581172A6DCE31@snuggie>
Are you ready to add to the GIS capabilities of your organization without additional licensing costs?
Do you need a powerful alternative to expensive software licenses that works with your existing solutions but without any strings attached?
Are you in need of more GIS desktop software seats but can't afford to buy more licenses?
Then it might be time to seriously consider open source desktop alternatives to strengthen your organizations capabilities.
Learn the basics of gvSIG a powerful 'mid range' open source desktop GIS at the King County GIS Center!
Terra GIS will be offering a 1 day introductory gvSIG class on Tuesday March 29th, 2011.
The emphasis of the class will be on general GIS functionalities and geoprocessing.
For more information visit: http://www.terragis.net/gis-classes/gvsig-introduction/
gvSIG is a powerful desktop GIS system that is known for having a user-friendly interface, being able to access the most common formats, both vector and raster ones (e.g. shape files, ArcSde, Oracle databases ...) . It features a wide range of tools for working with geographic information (query tools, layout creation, geoprocessing, networks, model builder, etc.) and provides excellent cartography and spatial analysis tools, and a wide range of spatial database connectivity.

Just received the links below from our Esri rep in Olympia, thought I
should pass along.
In the advent of an emergency, Oregon can request current satellite
imagery via the International Charter agreement. There have been several
people trained, but the primary person is Sheri Schneider with USGS in
Portland. Sheri is an OGIC member. We just sent her an email alerting
her that we might request imagery if there is any significant damage as
a result of the tsunami that struck the Oregon coast. So far, we
haven't heard of significant damage, but please let us know if you hear
of anything.

Subject: [nsgic_state_caucus_list] FW: Feedback - NASA missions - limited time to respond
Dear Colleagues;
We have an opportunity to provide feedback to NASA on what satellite missions are important to us. This review takes place every two years and helps determine which missions to maintain and which to terminate. This is the venue for the states to provide their feedback/input. There is a limited timeframe to respond, but we would like to know what you (or others in your state) utilize and deem important.
Dr. Lewis Lapine has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to participate in the NASA Earth Science Senior Review 2011/National Interests Panel for Mission Extension of Earth Science Operating Missions. Dr. Lapine will review 12 NASA missions; CALIPSO, GRACE, QuikSCAT, TRMM, Aqua, CloudSat, Jason-1, SORCE, Aura, EO-1, Jason-2/OSTM, and Terra.
NASA has requested Dr. Lapine to coordinate input from NSGIC on the above missions. A questionnaire is attached for this purpose. Please distribute the questionnaire to interested parties in your respective states. Use a separate questionnaire for each mission. It is critical that Parts E-G be completed for the questionnaire to be counted. Dr. Lapine will combine all the results into a spreadsheet for NASA. It is not necessary for you to collect the forms or send them to me. Please have your reviewers send the completed forms as attachments directly to Dr. Lapine at lew.lapine at scgs.sc.gov.
In order to compile all the results Dr. Lapine requests your input be sent to him no later than Wednesday, April 6, 2011.
Thank you,
td
