The American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) GIS Division in partnership with the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) and the Geographic and Land Information Society (GLIS) would like to invite our members to attend our first online seminar for the 2014 series. 

Title: Building an Agile, Modern, and Open Geospatial Platform

Abstract: Over the last several years, the National Park Service has developed a set of tools and processes that bridge the gap between traditional GIS and the modern web. In this presentation, Nate will talk about why “modernizing" traditional GIS is important and how the Park Service used an agile and modular open source strategy to bring geospatial in the NPS more inline with today’s technologies and social patterns.

About the Speaker:  Nate Irwin leads the NPMap team for the National Park Service. This team builds digital maps for partners both within and outside of the National Park Service. he graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in International Relations. He moved to Denver in 2006, after working at Petersburg National Battlefield in Virginia, and initial work on NPMap started soon after. Nate also has a graduate certificate in GIS from Pennsylvania State University.
