*Abstract: *

Multiple Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Applications (FOSS4G)
and Web Services have been developed to provide access to both basic
information and sophisticated simulation and optimization tools in the
water resources domain. This webminar will present an overview of some of
the most important of these tools.  The architecture and functionality of
one of these FOSS/Web Services systems will be presented and based on this
insight, future developments and improvements making use of the latest FOSS
and Web Service technologies will be discussed.

*Bio:*

Dr Maria Antonia Brovelli . Degree with honors in Physics, PhD in Geodesy.
Currently Professor of GIS at Politecnico di Milano. From 2006 to 2011 she
lectured GIS at the ETH – Zurich. From 2001 to 2011 she was the scientific
responsible of the Geomatics Laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano. Since
2011 she is Vice Rector for the Como Campus of Politecnico di Milano.

She is co-chair of ISPRS WG IV/5 "Web and Cloud Based Geospatial Services
and Applications”, Associate Editor of Applied Geomatics Journal
(Springer); Member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian
Photogrammetric and Topography Society (SIFET); Member of OSGEO Education
Committee, Member of the Advisory Board of ICA-OSGeo Lab Network.

Rafael Moreno-Sanchez has a bachelor degree in forestry from the Chapingo
Autonomous University in Mexico. He received his Ph. D. in Natural
Resources Administration from Colorado State University in the USA.  He has
worked as Researcher for the National Institute for Forest, Livestock, and
Agriculture Research (INIFAP) in Mexico; Director of the National Center
for Disciplinary Research in Conservation and Improvement of Forest
Ecosystems INIFAP (Mexico); Post Doctoral Fellow with the Organization of
American States—SEMARNAP in collaboration with the University of Western
Ontario (Canada).  He has 17 years of experience as a fulltime professor
teaching natural resources management, sustainable development, and
geographic information science and technology in the Department of
Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver.
