HITOC has worked with many stakeholders during the planning process for health information exchange, but as part of the next phase it is essential to have a strong consumer voice at the table to provide strategy input and recommendations to HITOC as policies are being considered.
To help facilitate regular input, HITOC has announced the formation of a Consumer Advisory Panel. Applications are now being accepted, with the initial round of applications being accepted through September 24. HITOC is planning on making initial appointments at its October meeting.
The Consumer Advisory Panel will ensure that conversations about health information exchange in Oregon have a strong patient-centric view. Oregon's HIE vision is to have "Information, when and where it is needed, to improve health and health care," and for consumers to have control over their information through an opt-out consent model.
I have attached a flyer with some additional information and background. You can find more information, including the application for the Consumer Advisory Panel, at http://www.oregon.gov/OHPPR/HITOC/Phase_1/Workgroups/WG_AP_Announcement.shtml.
I hope that you will share this opportunity with members of your organization. HITOC is looking forward to appointing a strong group of consumers before the first meeting of the Consumer Advisory Panel in early November.
Please let me know if you have any questions, or need additional information.
Sincerely,
Carol Robinson
