Hello again. So, we would like to announce our formal kickoff of an equity brown bag series sponsored by Metro!
To remind you, Metro is just beginning an internal equity inventory process. Our main goal for this internal process is to create a comprehensive list of Metro's current efforts that are considering equity. Our hope is that this will result in an understanding of various efforts being undertaken by Metro staff and the external partners working with them. This is the very first step of a much bigger effort that we hope will result in working with our partners and stakeholders to develop a set of equity principles and framework.
We have convened an internal work team to compile this information. While they help us compile the information, we also want to provide opportunities for them to learn and discuss the issue of equity. We are organizing an equity brown bag series with the goal to share with staff and our partners work that is going on in Metro, in this region, and around the country.
Our first brown bag will take place Wednesday July 20th from 12-1 at Metro (600 NE Grand Ave) in rooms 370A/B. The details are as follows:
Title: Are you Engaged? Learn how a summer on the streets of East Metro opened the doors of public participation and equity.
Join Oregon Fellow Miguel Sossa for an in-depth look inside the world of public engagement through the eyes of the East Metro area, as well as lessons learned from how equity is applied to projects within the Pacific Northwest.
In May, Miguel began a 10-week internship exploring the culturally rich communities of the East Metro area and how Metro could better connect with residents as part of the East Metro Connections Plan. He also partnered with both city, regional, and community-based agencies to identify how environmental, health, and social equity principles are incorporated into everyday decision-making.
Learn about the five key ways to improve your public engagement process as well as how to ensure that all populations are considered during your planning processes.
Feel free to pass this invitation on to fellow coworkers and colleagues.
If you have questions let me know.
And I apologize for any cross postings!
